Over 7 million people are internally displaced — the highest in Africa. The fall of Goma to M23 rebels in early 2025 displaced hundreds of thousands more in days, creating one of the fastest-moving displacement crises in the world.
Congo holds 70% of the world’s cobalt, used in every smartphone battery. Armed groups fight over mines, using forced labour and child soldiers. Global demand for tech minerals fuels the conflict. Consumers worldwide are connected to this war.
The DRC has been called the “rape capital of the world.” Sexual violence is systematically used as a weapon of war by multiple armed groups. Hundreds of thousands of survivors receive inadequate or no support.
6.9 million children are acutely malnourished. Thousands of children have been recruited as child soldiers. School attendance has collapsed in conflict zones. An entire generation is being robbed of childhood.

Millions remain in camps, cities lie in rubble, millions face food insecurity, and the infrastructure for a return to normal life barely exists. Syria’s transition needs the world’s sustained attention and support.

Nearly 16.7 million Syrians — over 70% of the population — need humanitarian assistance. Food prices have soared 800% since 2011. Farming regions have been devastated. A generation has grown up hungry.
The post-Assad transition is fragile and complex. Syria needs international support, not sanctions that punish civilians. Aid corridors must be opened. Reconstruction must begin. Syrian refugees must have a safe path home.
