About Palestine
Palestine is a geographic region in Western Asia, historically part of the broader region of the Levant. The Palestinian people have a rich cultural heritage and deep historical roots in the land.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the most enduring and complex geopolitical issues of our time, involving questions of sovereignty, self-determination, human rights, and international law.
Palestinian People & Culture
Palestinians are an Arab ethnic group with a distinct national identity. Palestinian culture is rich with:
- Traditional music, dance (dabke), and poetry
- Distinctive cuisine including dishes like maqluba, musakhan, and knafeh
- Traditional embroidery (tatreez) with regional patterns
- A strong literary and artistic tradition

Historical Timeline
Palestine was home to Arab, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities for centuries under Ottoman and later British Mandate rule.
Declaration of the State of Israel. What Palestinians call the “Nakba” (catastrophe) – displacement of approximately 700,000 Palestinians from their homes.
Six-Day War results in Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem.
First Intifada – Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.
Oslo Accords signed, establishing the Palestinian Authority and framework for negotiations.
Second Intifada period.
