- Consent: Both parties must willingly consent to the marriage. This includes the bride’s consent, which is often given through her guardian (wali)1.
- Mahr (Dowry): The groom must provide a mahr, a financial gift to the bride, symbolizing his commitment and respect1.
- Witnesses: At least two Muslim witnesses are required to validate the marriage1.
- Religious Commitment: Both partners should have a similar level of religious commitment and piety2.
- Social Status: Compatibility in social status, such as family background and profession, is often considered3.
- Physical and Mental Health: Both partners should be free from serious physical or mental health issues that could affect the marriage3.
- Moral Character: Good moral character and behavior are highly valued4.
- Family Support: The support and approval of both families can play a significant role in the success of the marriage3.
These factors help ensure that the marriage is built on a strong foundation of mutual respect, understanding, and shared values.
